Ever since the launch of Ubuntu touch , it has been speculated as a viable alternative for Android. It's open source nature and strong backing by the canonical community meant that it will be the next big thing in the mobile world.

The OS has currently been ported to four nexus devices.
- Galaxy Nexus.
- Nexus 4.
- Nexus 7 Wifi 2012.
- Nexus 10.
We decided to try and install the OS on our old and faithful Nexus 7 device. Installing the OS was a cakewalk.
The Prerequisites: A rooted 2012 Nexus7, PC, Internet connection.
To make this installation easier we decided to use the nexus root kit which can be downloaded from here. In case your phone is not rooted, it can be easily done so using the rootkit. We will not go into the details of the rootkit and rooting as it has been widely written about already.
Download the required files from the following ubuntu site.
You will have to download the files based on you device code. For Nexus 7 we will download the following files:
quantal-preinstalled-armel+grouper.zip
quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip
The Procedure:
- Connect the phone in usb debugging.
- Open the nexus rootkit.
- Boot into recovery.
- Clear data and cache.
- Flash the zip in the above order.
- Done!!
