Virgin Galactic is all set to start commercial space flights in 2014. There is still a lot of testing to be done before the plan is realized. This weekend they carried out another succesful test flight.
The good news for us is that Virgin Galactic team recorded this test flight from multiple angles for us fans. They were kind enough to put it up on youtube for us to watch.
This is the third test for SpaceShipTwo(SS2). This test was to test the new protective thermal coating and the SS2's reaction control system. The RCS thruster system will allow the pilots to control the flight in space thus allowing better views for the passengers.
The hybrid engine was on for 20 seconds. The flight altitude was 71000 feet and the speed was MACH 1.4.
Towards the end of the video you can see the flight rotate around its tail's axis. This is the new feather re-entry system that will surely come as a surprise to the passengers.
