Next Wave of Wearable Tech : The Goolge Smart-Lens

The Smart Lens Design
Data on your fingertips.

We thought google glasses were geeky. Welcome google lens. Now this isn't exactly an android powered device on your eyes. Google has created these to measure diabetes levels and alert the user if it shoots above a certain threshold.

The company says it is currently testing prototypes of this contact lens that use a tiny wireless chip and a miniaturized glucose sensor. These chips are embedded in between two soft layers of lens material.

Google scientists say that they have long researched for bodily fluids that can help track glucose levels in the body. Tears were their first option but it was not always available for an external device. So they took the device to the tear.
The sensors are embedded between two layers of lens. The lens also includes tiny colored LED lights which indicate the insulin level by throwing red or green light.

Google is working with FDA to get these approved for commercial use. It would make these lenses smart with smartphone integration to make the readings available to the patient and their doctors. We think this is a very noble effort from google and might be a boon to the millions affected by diabetes around the world.

With technology advancing at such a fast pace, we just might be able to see a proper smart lenses which project actual text and image data onto or eyes. Terminator Style!
