Top 5 Windows Phone Applications and Games

Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 is consistently being slammed for having a not so comprehensive app store. It is partially correct. The store is nowhere close to the android and apple store and it usually takes a month or two for apps to arrive to the WP8 store after being launched on the Android or Apple.

Having said that, it is also true that windows phone is blessed with some great apps, and apps like facebook seem to be better on WP8 than on Android. All the top apps eventually make it to the windows phone platform sooner or later. Also many great apps are preloaded into the OS, the prime example is Microsoft Office. The photofeed, the camera apps, the email client are all top notch. Especially if you are using a nokia phone. The apps that Nokia provide are excellent.

1. Facebook: This app is provided by the big daddy Microsoft.  It is the best facebook app we have seen across all the platforms. It has all the features of its IOS and android counterpart and then some more. You can pin tiles to home screen. You can also set facebook as lockscreen and your top photos will cycle as lock screen images.

2. Instagram (beta) : Its doubtful why Instagram is hanging out with the beta tag. We tested this app thoroughly on our Lumia 920 and we never came across any issues. Very stable and very rich. 3. Line Birds: Line birds comes to WP8 after creating waves on the IOS platform. It is a never ending side scroller with cute graphics and addicting gameplay. Its one of those games which you cannot put down once you start. It is like the much acclaimed flappy bird which is currently a rage, but much more playable and well designed. Line bird is a paid game and is available for just under 1$.

4. Collector: The flipboard for Windows Phone? Not quite, but it is a viable alternative for it. Organise your news feed according to categories, select trusted sources for every category and sit back and enjoy the latest news delivered to your palm. The interface requires a lot of improvement but they are going in the right direction. Another Flipboard alternative for windows phone is weave.
